The original soundtrack also got tweaked a teensy bit, further adding polish to the game’s production values. Even the character models are redesigned to better match today’s visual sensibilities, not just in terms of color and detail but proportions as well. The visual spit-shine is also further enhanced by a brighter color palette that makes the world of Bikini Bottom pop out in comparison to the muddier look of the original game. From details such as swaying blades of grass to the improved texture quality on the world’s various surfaces, Rehydrated represents a stunning visual improvement. If there’s one thing that Rehydrated does really well, however, it would be remaking the game’s visuals. Thankfully, the bulk of the cast is voiced properly so it’s not an incredibly big deal but it’s still somewhat of a bummer given that it’s one issue from the old game that could have been rectified with Rehydrated. Krabs start talking because it’s quite obvious that it isn’t the same guy. For fans of the show, that can result in a sudden loss of immersion when characters like Mr. Krabs did not use the original voice actor from the cartoon. In the original Battle for Bikini Bottom, for example, some characters such as Mr. The game pretty much just reuses the voice track from the original game, which is good overall except for a few noticeable quibbles. This seemingly small lapse in judgment leads to big trouble for Bikini Bottom as it suddenly finds itself facing a flood of hostile robots.

Ronco Showtime Rotisserie, this certainly ain’t. Unfortunately for the tiny troublemaker, Plankton forgets to turn on the setting that makes the robot army obey him. This time around, Plankton decides to go heavy metal by building an army of loyal robots to do his bidding. In the original Battle for Bikini Bottom, pint-sized party pooper Plankton decides to chum the waters once again with another one of his dastardly plans to steal the Krabby Patty Secret Formula. Is the time ripe to tap into some nostalgia and serve up a rehydrated release of this title once more? Looking good, SpongeBob Fast forward to the present and many of the game’s original fans are now in their 20s. Chalk it up to its not-so-secret formula of action and platforming combined with Bikini Bottom hijinks. Since then, the original game has turned into somewhat of a cult classic. That’s almost how much time has passed since the original predecessor of “SpongeBob Square Pants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated” was first released many, many, many years ago.
